Multiple activities during August made for a most interesting month. Highlights were – start of Club visits, Interact conference, Rotary Melbourne Monash Medal and Shrine service, RORP site visit, DG 5min Video Interview at Rotary Melbourne (on Socials) RESCA awards Dinner and 50TH Anniversary of Camberwell Sunday Market. Club Visits were all engaging, enjoyable and highlighted the extensive stories that all Clubs have. Great to see new member inductions at four of the Clubs visited – Fitzroy, North Melbourne, Camberwell and Melbourne.
It was a pleasure to be guest of Rotary Melbourne on 5th August to see Lara Olsen receive the 2026 Monash Medal . The Medal, (named after Sir John Monash (second President of Rotary Melbourne) is awarded to an outstanding Australian who has made a significant contribution to the Australian community. Lara highlighted the enduring benefit of her experience as a 16 year-old exchange student to Japan. Also, the Shrine service on 8th August was a moving experience.
The Multi-District Interact conference on Monday 10th August was very motivating. Excellent presentations from the students – starting with discussion on how they are contributing to environmental issues. At the conclusion of the Conference, a former Interact student and now a Rotaract member gave an inspiring talk highlighting a pathway for students to consider post school. ie RYLA, Rotaract.
The site visit to Sunshine North to see RORP (Rotary overseas Recycled Playgrounds) in action was inspirational. Eight playgrounds and six pallets of books were loaded onto a container going to the Maldives.

On Sunday 30th August, Camberwell Sunday Market celebrated its 50th Anniversary: an outstanding achievement, over $20m raised, powering a diverse range of local, national, international projects. (photos). Rotary Balwyn President Julie Mulhauser announced in her speech that the 6th of September Sunday Market proceeds/ funds – a minimum of $25,000 would be donated to Nepal Flood Disaster assistance.

Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) has today established an appeal fund for the Nepal disaster. This is the link to the appeal. Tax deductible donations can be made immediately to Rotary - Nepal Flooding Disaster Relief (RAWCS) or click on the QR code.
With your help, RAWCS will continue to establish more Rotary contacts and Clubs in Nepal in the days and weeks that follow. Using our existing rotary contacts in Nepal and making new relationships to deliver humanitarian aid in the affected areas. There is also an opportunity for your Club to donate to Shelterbox.
