Description

  • 10 Foundation Grants of $1,250 over two years are available in 2023 to support clubs offering Year 11-12 Scholarships to their local school.
  • Grant funding is made available on a reservation/claims basis i.e. payment is made at the end of each school year upon receipt of a report/claim in the required format by the due date. Grants not claimed by the due date will automatically expire. There will be no follow up by the District Foundation Committee for overdue reports.
  • Each scholarship is to be for $2,500 over two years ($1,500 for Year 11 and $1,000 for 12), made up of a Club contribution of $1,250 and a matching $1,250 Foundation Grant.
  • The scholarships are to be used for the same student(s) each year, (see below).
  • Applications for a scholarship are to be made using the Application Form 2023 - Year 11-12 Scholarships for 2024-2025 School Years

Purpose

  • To support clubs in their Youth Service objective to strengthen relationships with their local school community.
  • To encourage talented and motivated young people facing financial barriers to successfully complete their Year 11 and Year 12 secondary education.
Guidelines for Awards
  • Scholarships are to be awarded only to Australian institutions, for use within Australia.
  • Scholarships are to be paid at the commencement of each of the two school years directly to the school.
  • The scholarship can benefit one or two students, as determined by the school.
  • Scholarships are not handouts. They are intended for talented and motivated, financially disadvantaged students entering Year 11 to assist with their education related expenses.
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate a talent or potential in a specific area that, given an opportunity, could develop further
  • The scholarship can be used for textbooks and stationery, uniforms, camps, excursions, computers, Myki tickets, musical instruments and tuition costs and other course related costs
  • The school will need to account to the club for the expenditure of the scholarship funds at the end of each year.
  • Clubs should be sensitive to the fact that some students may shun recognition of receiving charity, so anonymity of beneficiaries may have to be observed.  Please discuss this with your school officer.

Financial Governance

  • It is important that clubs make all requirements known and understood to the school officers involved before the scholarship is presented. The school will need to plan accordingly both to determine recipients and to administer the scholarship to ensure full disclosure of expenditure and that expenditure is only made for the approved purposes.
  • Schools are encouraged to spend the full amount of the scholarship in each of the two years.  Any unspent scholarship funds must be returned.
  • Grant payment will be made to clubs in two instalments. The first instalment of $750 will be paid at the end of Year 11 studies, upon receipt of a properly completed Interim Report in the prescribed format, accompanied by the school's receipt for the first scholarship payment. The second instalment of $500 will be paid at the end of Year 12 studies, upon receipt of the properly completed Final Report, accompanied by the school's receipt for the second scholarship payment.
