May is both the last month of Autumn and the second last month of the Rotary year. So, my journey to the end of my year as Governor continues. I kicked off the month attending the President’s Elect Learning & Development Seminar, held in Bendigo by DGE Graeme Hope, in my future role as a Community Leader. Congratulations to DGE Graeme Hope and his facilitator IPDG Michael Lapiña along with District Secretary Marjorie Gerlinger on a well-run event.
I attended the famous Rochester Pie and Port Night and then the next day had the honour of speaking at and handing out awards at the Model United Nations Assembly this year hosted by Keilor East. My thanks to Adriaan Adolph & Sally Armstong for once again organizing this great event and to the members of University of Melbourne Student Union Rotoract Club who provided great assistance on the weekend.
While it was a relatively quiet month where I managed to even attend a meeting of my own club Altona, the final week was full on. It started with me attending the 36th Annual Rotary Richmond Ainger Peck Public Speaking award and once again the quality and variety of the 10 finalists was outstanding. Then on Tuesday I attended the final Heat Round of Wynspeak, hosted by Rotary Altona City and got to be one of the judges for the short speech section and again was impressed by the level of passion and presentation. On Wednesday I had the honour of attending the inaugural Kynspeak Public speaking competition between Sacred Heart College Kyneton and Braemar College Woodend. For a first time event, the quality and variety of speeches were of a high standard and a great addition to our various Public Speaking Competitions.
I also attended RC Richmond’s annual Mock Job Interviews Program at Melbourne Girls College which provides students with both practical learning in an interview environment as well as sharing the experiences of Rotarians and Friends that can provide tips for the future. I then closed out a busy week by hosting my second and final Council of Governors lunch where past present and future Governors from our District get together to catch up and hear how the current Governor's team is going. Once again an enjoyable lunch and catch up was enjoyed by all in attendance at the Deer Park Club.
And it was great fun to be interviewed by Glenferrie Rotarian, Ian Salek, for the Rotary and Community Service Radio Show on 94.1 3WBC. If you missed it, click
