The Fitzroy and Collingwood areas of Melbourne, part of the City of Yarra, are a mecca for a diverse variety of Communities from around the globe.  For many, Australia has become a haven from which to restart their lives or to launch a life in relative safety. Rotary is on the ground providing care in the community.
Community learning to heal with the help of a Rotary BBQ
For many in the Community where the Rotary Clubs of Collingwood and Fitzroy are located, life has taken a difficult turn and many have been rocked by tragedy in recent months.  To help them reconnect while they grieve their lost children, a Victorian Government initiative paired with the City of Yarra and Yarra Wild beast’s basketball club to host a series of Community functions. These events were held at a local site familiar with the community and its young people.  The events consisted of a BBQ and sporting games that were designed to allow and encourage the community to quietly sit with one another and enjoy a safe space.

Both Rotary clubs contributed at very short notice to the events with members helping manage the BBQ and contributing to a space where people could grieve and support each other. By Uniting together and for Good, the Community has begun the important process of recovery.  Our congratulations and thanks to all involved.
