An Article by Alex Lapiña, Rotary Activate & Rotaract Music Makers

Last month, I had the wonderful opportunity to feature on two different podcasts that both celebrate innovation, connection, and creativity within Rotary.
On 25 September, I joined Rotarian Gwen Jones on the Action2Impact Podcast, where we discussed how the Rotaract Club of Music Makers came to life—and how Rotary around the world could be doing more to tap into people’s passions by creating cause-based Rotaract clubs within Rotary. What started as a conversation about music quickly evolved into a discussion about belonging, purpose, and the future of Rotary membership.

We also touched on some of the tough questions—why Rotary’s membership isn’t growing as quickly as we’d like, and what barriers might be discouraging younger people from getting involved. It was a candid, honest exchange about relevance and innovation, and how simple ideas can lead to meaningful change.

Then, on 20 October, I joined Luke Bowden, President-Elect of the Rotary Club of Werribee, on WynFM’s Curtain Up! podcast. We completely nerded out about musical theatre, and I shared a bit more about my background and why I’m so passionate about supporting the performing arts. We discussed how creativity and service can come together, and how music continues to be such a powerful connector—bridging communities and creating opportunities for wellbeing, inclusion, and joy.

Both conversations reminded me of what makes Rotary so special: the freedom to combine what we love with what we do for others. Whether it’s through podcasts, music, or meaningful partnerships, we all have the chance to turn action into impact—and that’s where Rotary’s future really shines.
