As we turn the calendar page to June, we enter the final month of this Rotary year—and the closing chapter of my time as steward of our great District 9800. It’s a moment of reflection, gratitude, and anticipation.

May has been a month of looking both forward and back. With excitement building for the new Rotary year, clubs and leaders across our district are preparing to step into their roles with renewed purpose. This sense of momentum was clearly felt at the District Learning and Engagement Forum (formerly District Assembly), expertly led by District Governor-Elect Peter. The energy in the room was unmistakable, and it was inspiring to witness our next wave of leaders committing to the future of Rotary.

I had the privilege of attending the opening of the Millennium time capsules with the Rotary Club of Altona City—an event that beautifully reminded us of the legacy we build through Rotary service and how the seeds we plant today continue to bloom for future generations.

We also paused to celebrate the extraordinary milestones of Rotary Club of Balwyn North, marking 45 years of service, and Rotary Club of Essendon, celebrating a remarkable 90 years. These anniversaries are powerful reminders of Rotary’s enduring impact over time.

One of the most energising events this month was the Multi-District Impact Summit, which brought together leaders and changemakers from across multiple districts. I'm especially proud that District 9800 sponsored two young Rotarians to attend—demonstrating our investment in the future of our movement.

Meanwhile, a visible symbol of our shared values is beginning to appear across communities: Peace Poles have been ordered and are now being installed in several locations around the district. Each one stands as a quiet but powerful reminder of Rotary’s vision for peace in the world.

As we approach the end of this Rotary year, I’m looking forward to joining many of you at your upcoming Club Changeovers—a time to celebrate the year that was and warmly welcome your new leadership teams. Then, on 16 June, I’ll be heading to Calgary to attend the Rotary International Convention, where the global spirit of Rotary will be on full display. I hope to return with renewed inspiration and stories to share.

Before I go, a gentle reminder: Bookings are now open for our District Changeover on Saturday, 5 July. It will be a special occasion to reflect on the journey we’ve taken together this year and pass the torch to DGE Peter. I would love to see as many of you there as possible—please don’t miss this moment to celebrate the Magic of Rotary in action.
