On 22 February, the Rotary Club of Chadstone/East Malvern once again provided the catering for the Melbourne Henley Regatta. Despite the sweltering heat, 18 members of the Club turned up to load the equipment, set up the marquees, tables, BBQs and cook up a storm for the participants and onlookers at this amazing event.

First staged in 1904, the Australian Henley was established to raise sufficient funds to send Australian crews overseas and to bring international crews to Australia. It is an amateur rowing regatta held annually in Melbourne under the auspices of
Rowing Victoria. Also known as Henley-on-Yarra, it is organized by the Melbourne Amateur Regatta Association (MARA). This event is based on the Henley Royal Regatta and features a two-lane knock-out format.
For the last 10 years the Rotary Club of Chadstone/East Malvern has been providing the catering for this event, starting off the day with egg and bacon rolls and then moving on to sausage sizzles, chicken schnitzels, hamburgers and our famous paella. It was a brilliant day. The sun shone (a little too much) but our BBQ was a roaring success. Due to the heat we ran out of drinks and a quick dash to the supermarket was required to re-stock.
Huge thanks to Alick Osborne, our Vice President, for once again masterminding the whole event so smoothly and thanks to everyone who rocked up to help from 7:00 am. until pack-up time. It’s a lot of hard work but we always have so much fun.
