Timor-Leste was colonised by Portugal for more than 450 years before being occupied by Indonesia for 24 years until 1999. Following a United Nations-administered transition period, the nation regained its independence in 2002.
My final month as Governor was as jam packed as I could make it as I sought to attend as many events as I could along with Changeovers.

Thousands of students across rural Cambodia are set to benefit from improved access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene education through a major Rotary-supported WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Global Grant currently being implemented in Siem Reap province.
A Rotary-led partnership has brought safe drinking water to nearly 800 people in a remote village in Myanmar's Karen State, reducing the threat of deadly waterborne diseases and creating a sustainable, community-managed solution for future generations. In a region where clean water can mean the difference between health and illness, this project is not simply providing water – it is helping to secure a healthier future for an entire community.
Exciting progress continues at Yimba in Uganda, with students and trainers making remarkable advances across several vocational and community development programs.
The Balwyn Centenary Grants project was created as part of the celebration of 100 years of Rotary in Australia. Its original intention was to fund Rotary Club projects up to $1 million over the first five years of operation.
May is both the last month of Autumn and the second last month of the Rotary year. So, my journey to the end of my year as Governor continues. 
The Sumba Eye Program has been active since 2008, following a meeting between ophthalmologist, Dr Mark Ellis and Dr Claus Bogh on a plane flight to Sumba in 2007. At the time, Dr Ellis was conducting the first ever eye camp in Waingapu, the capital of Sumba, under the auspices of the international affairs department of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons. Prior to this meeting, since 2004, Mark had travelled annually to East Timor.
