Cheaper and Easier International Shipping to Timor Leste
Type: Story
Published: Dec 10, 2023
Rotary Keilor East is introducing an easier, and more cost-effective way to ship goods internationally. We know that many countries in our region could benefit from the goods that are readily available from our Donations In Kind (DIK) and Rotary Australia Repurposing Equipment (RARE) stores. We also know that many clubs want to help, but mostly they operate in isolation. A full container of material is often more than a project needs and is financially challenging for many clubs. The answer is a shared container. The Club International Intentions Survey allows us to connect clubs with similar interests in providing aid and equipment internationally. If you have not done so, please complete the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DCFMNKF Rotary Keilor East obtained a District Foundation grant to help ship a container of educational goods and medical equipment to Timor Leste. Other clubs can take advantage of the grant by shipping their goods

Beyond the Backyard—International Fellowship of Cricket Loving Rotarians
Type: Story
Published: Oct 23, 2020
By Rowan McCleanIt was at the Rotary International Assembly held in Nashville in 1986 that the idea of an exchange of parties of cricket-playing Rotarians between districts in the United Kingdom and India was discussed. For several years, exchanges between India, South Africa and the West Indies took place, but it became clear that a new Rotary Vocational Fellowship would succeed. On 25th May 1993, the formal launching of the International Fellowship of Cricket Loving Rotarians took place in the Long Room of the Melbourne Cricket Club, courtesy of the Australian Cricket Board. Tours have since taken place between Australia, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, United Kingdom and the West Indies. The incoming tourists have not only been able to enjoy the delights of a new country seen through the eyes of their Rotarian hosts, but they have also acted as “missionaries” and have shown that even though one’s body may have declined, the enjoyment of

Rotary Fellowships and Interest Groups - International Fellowship Of Rotarian Photographers

Published: Nov 12, 2020
By Helena WimpolePhotography is a pastime in which most of us participate at some time or other. Many of us enjoy photographing members of our family and capturing wonderful sights we have seen on overseas visits and other holidays. Some also enjoy taking artistic photos of nature such as a flower, a bird, or something else that takes our interest. A large proportion of the population in Western countries and many people in developing countries, now have access to mobile phones with cameras. With the increase in technical capability of these phones, producing quality photos has become easier than ever before. Nevertheless, serious photographers and professionals still use hi-tech cameras and equipment to achieve quality images. It is not surprising that Rotarians with a passion for photography have joined together to share their works, technical expertise, knowledge and fellowship. The International Fellowship of Rotarian Photographers was recognised by

International Marathon Fellowship Of Rotarians
Type: Story
Published: Jun 06, 2021
By Helena WimpoleThe International Marathon Fellowship of Rotarians was formed after a group of French Rotarians developed the idea of having at least 100 Rotarians competing in the Paris Marathon during Rotary’s Centennial year in 2005. The Fellowship was chartered the following year at the Berlin Marathon and since then, the group has met annually somewhere around the world to participate in a long distance running event.Marathon running is a popular sport throughout the world with many countries having annual events. For this reason the International Marathon Fellowship of Rotarians has many countries from which to choose when organising a place where its members can stay, compete in a marathon event and enjoy hospitality, friendship and local tourism. A very important part of the Fellowship is fundraising for Rotary projects, mostly focusing on the Rotary Foundation’s aim to eradicate Polio. The participants of this Fellowship are dedicated to promo

By Helena WimpoleChess is an abstract strategy game that appeals to people of all ages. It has existed in various forms for thousands of years and to many it’s known as the Game of Kings. Played throughout the world, it is renowned for developing the brain in important ways. The modern chess tournament began in the latter part of the 19th century with the first World Chess Championship held in 1886. Chess tournaments have been the subject of a number of films, and the popularity of the recent multi-part series, The Queen’s Gambit telecast on Netflix, has encouraged many people to either take up chess, or return to the game they once played and enjoyed. The International Chess Fellowship of Rotarians was formed in 1977, making it one of the older Rotary Fellowships. In the early days of the Fellowship, before computers and mobile phones, members played the game with others by sending each move by post.Consequently, it was not unusual for chess matches to
