National Youth Science Forum

The National Youth Science Forum program is one of excellence for talented Year 11 science students contemplating a career in the science or engineering. It introduces students to the myriad of careers open to them in science and engineering, and whether it be in Canberra or Perth, the students will work alongside experts in their respective fields as well as have access to industry and university laboratories that would not otherwise be open to students. The twelve days are action packed and students report that it has been a life changing opportunity for them.

D9800 was allocated twenty four places for NYSF in January 2011 divided between each of the two Canberra 12 day residential sessions and the 12 day Perth residential session. In addition the district was allocated one place at the NYSF equivalent in New Zealand.  (highlights of reports from students attending NYSF 2011 – read more)

The Science Experience

The Science Experience (formerly the Siemens Science Experience) is three days of fun science activities for Years 9 & 10 students. The program is designed to provide students who have an interest in science with an opportunity to engage in a wide range of fascinating science activities under the guidance of scientists.

The program takes place in universities and tertiary institutions where students perform experiments, meet and hear senior lecturers in lecture theatres, attend site visits and experience what it is like to be on campus of a university or tertiary institution. The program also provides information about further studies in science, technology and engineering, and it highlights the wide range of careers available, as well as giving participants the opportunity to meet and share ideas with students from different schools.

Clubs should receive promotional material from the Science Experience shortly. Further information about the program may be obtained at www.scienceexperience.com.au . Students should download the application form or apply on line at the above website.
