Second Bite - Delivering fresh food to the people of Melbourne and Hobart
The second bite organisation was born 2 years ago. It has now grown to 8 staff, 3 refrigerated vans, premises in Kensington, more than 300 committed volunteers and collections now averaging more than 60 tonnes per month of fresh food. This is enough for 1.4 million nutritious meals supplied by more than 100 recipient organisations. It is a wonderful story that has made a real difference to the lives of many people struggling to make ends meet.
Rotary provides the majority of the volunteers who collect much of the food from markets around Melbourne and Hobart. There are now plans for Dandenong and Geelong and an expansion of the Victoria Market.
