WATER CONSERVATION

Drains To Our Waterways - A program Rotary is using to help protect and keep our waterways clean of pollution and litter.
Water is vital to our lives in every way. We drink it, we bathe in it, we wash with it, we eat food from crops that must have it to grow, we swim in it - we interact with water everyday. But how we protect and conserve our clean water supplies determines the quality and quantity of water we will have for the future.
Rotary District 9800 has for some years been running programs developed to conserve water and protect our waterways - for the benefit of humans, nature and wildlife.

Several of our programs have provided education to school aged children, helping them form habits that will last throughout their lives, and at the same time helping educate their families. The focus of our current efforts toward water conservation is a program called Drainsto our Waterways.

Drains To Our Waterways

Drains to our Waterways is a Rotary developed program involving Rotarians, Melbourne Water, primary schoolchildren and local councils. Its aim is to focus public awareness on the need to keep storm water drains litter free by stenciling a environmentally-minded message on Stormwater drain pit lids.

How Can You Get Involved or Help Out?

Get involved in Rotary! Either as a new Rotarian or a partner to our initiatives, your contribution can make a difference. Programs like this one rely on the efforts of volunteer Rotarians, whose time and effort has enabled the rollout of similar initiatives helping protect our waterways and conserve fresh clean water supplies.

We also rely on the contributions of our wonderful partners and donations from the public to make it all happen.

Water is worth saving.
