| Many families lost not only their homes, but their livelihoods and thetheir main income earners in the devastation of the 2004 Tsunami Disaster of December 2004. To this day they arestill trying to recover.
In the aftermath of the destruction and human tragedy, the Support a Village Initiative (SAVI) of Rotary District 9800 was introduced to focus on the longer term rebuilding and reconstruction of infrastructure and livelihoods in India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Thailand.

 | In conjunction with Rotarians in the affected areas Rotarians from Rotary District 9800 have been providing both funding and practical support to this ongoing effort to rebuild. While immediately after the Tsunami there was an influx of donations, aid and relief efforts, rebuilding the affected regions will take years yet to complete and relies on the sustained efforts of all involved.
| | Rotary District 9800's work through SAVI with the people of East Timor will continue along with the committed efforts of Rotary District 9800's Project Volunteers and Donations in Kind functions in bringing materials, equipment, and supplies to affected villages. |
