“I Only Want What You Have”
Mental Illness and Homelessness – Engaging with a caring community.
 | Mental Illness affects 1 in 5 people in the community and is an illness that until recently has been largely ignored by the community. It is in the too hard basket. This is a tragedy given that the people affected by mental illness may be our children, our parents, our friends or members of our extended family. Unfortunately over the years society has marginalized these people and shunned them – the question that we must ask ourselves is – “As members of a caring and compassionate society, is this right, and what could I do to support these people in their journey of recovery?
At Richmond Fellowship, we believe that people with a mental illness are no different from you and me. Unfortunately they have an illness that the community does not understand, an illness that is, in most cases recoverable from, allowing them to rebuild their lives and regain their rightful place in our community.
Richmond Fellowship, in Victoria and South Australia, is a leader in working to support the recovery of people suffering from mental illness and those at risk of homelessness, it does this through helping them regain their sense of self belief and achieving their own goals.
Programs operate across Victoria in Melbourne, Warrnambool, Bendigo, Shepparton, Wangaratta, Wodonga and Traralgon. In South Australia we have programs in Adelaide and Mount Gambier. Speakers will include a member of staff and if available a person(s) who has a lived experience that they would like to share.
