The Rotary Youth – Skandia Geelong Week program is essentially a celebration of Australia Day. The program allows selected youth from regional Victoria to enjoy a memorable experience via participation in the Victorian Australia Day luncheon and Australia’s largest sailing event – Skandia Geelong Week.
This prestigious event brings together community, government, and business, and is attended by the Governor, State Premier and many celebrities including our District Governor.
The Skandia Geelong Week experience takes on a new dimension as recipients of the Rotary Youth program are balloted to competing yachts and participate as crew members in the traditional passage race from Williamstown to Geelong.
The massive fleet, accompanied by tall ships and a large spectator fleet, creates a spectacular sight on one of Australia’s best sailing venues – Port Phillip.
Students are selected based on special recognition, or for their high achievements within their community. One selected Youth/Rotarian will attend the official 'Australia Day Luncheon' at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre, mingling with celebrities, professional yachtspeople and dignitaries.
This is a prime opportunity for a kid from the country to literally learn the ropes on board a racing yacht with its high performance team.
