“Read To Me” Literacy Project
|
 | | "Read To Me" Literacy Project fosters a lifelong love of books in children.
|
| Children acquire reading and literacy skills through a process of modelling - learning from others - and as such, require others to read regularly to them to develop strong literacy skills.
The Read To Me International Foundation was set up in 1996 to encourage families to read aloud to children from the earliest age.

Rotary District 9800's involvement in the "Read To Me" program aims to present a free “Read To Me” kit including a children’s book to mothers of every newborn in all Victorian maternity hospitals. Reading to children at this age encourages bonding between the family and the newborn and encourages the development of positive habits that will last throughout the child's life.
Studies have shown that developing literacy in early childhood is a key factor in facilitating childhood scholastic achievement as well as both intellectual and social development. What's more, reading at an early age promotes a love of reading and learning in later life.
The Rotary Club of Essendon North aims to deliver over 40,000 books each year, the books written by Australian authors and provided thanks to the support of companies including members of the Australian Publishers Association.
|
Rotary District 9800 hopes that with your ongoing support, "The Read To Me" program will be able to continue encouraging literacy and positive habits throughout the lives of many more generations of children.
